Perhaps a 2013 New York Times article, focused on Alabama’s consecutive national championships, put it best with the headline, “The Saban Way: That was Nice, Now Move On.”
In Port Neches-Groves, Brandon Faircloth has draped the football program in his own system that touches everything from player interviews to on-field execution with a similar mentality.
Friday night, junior quarterback Adam Morse broke a school single-game record for passing yards by throwing for 384 yards on 26-of-38 attempts with four passing touchdowns and one rushing.
“Congratulations,” Faircloth said he texted Morse the next day, when both found out. “But forget about it. We have another game to play.'”
And it’s a big one, as PN-G travels to West Orange-Stark Friday for a matchup between one of the area’s best offenses and one of the best local defenses.
Monday, nobody at PN-G seemed too excited about the record or anything that had transpired in Friday’s 38-13 win against 6A Clear Lake.
“That’s a start,” said junior receiver Jack Giblin, who caught six passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. “Now we have to go beat that (mark) this week.”
