Two Southeast Texas teams will compete in the 2019 Texas 7-on-7 football state championships later this week in College Station.
West Brook and Port Neches-Groves each secured their spot in the Division I tournament by winning a qualifying event earlier this summer. It will be the Bruins’ 10th appearance at the state tournament — the most in Southeast Texas — while the Indians will be making their fifth trip.
Pools for the tournament were announced on Sunday, with each of them consisting of four teams. West Brook was placed in Pool F along with Cedar Hill, Clear Springs and Lake Travis. PN-G will be in Pool D with Clear Brook, Hutto and Southlake.
The Division I tournament will start on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. All teams from each pool will play each other, with the top two advancing. Play will resume for the championship bracket at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
All games will be played on various fields at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.
Last year, three teams from Southeast Texas qualified for the state event: West Brook (Div. I), Silsbee (Div. II) and Deweyville (Div.III).
