Four-star Texas commit Roschon Johnson was named the MVP of the Dallas regional of the Elite 11, the country’s premier quarterback competition.
Johnson a 6-1, 192-pound dual-threat committed to the Texas Longhorns last July. He hails from Port Neches-Groves High School in Texas and boasts offers from Power Five programs such as Florida, Ohio State, Florida State and Oregon.
Being named an MVP of an Elite 11 regional is a high honor, most of them go on to earn invited to the finals in Los Angeles, Ca, where the top high school quarterbacks from across the nation compete to earn a spot in the coveted football fraternity.
Johnson performing well at the regional should come as no surprise to those who have watched the incoming senior’s high school career.
During the 2016 season, he threw for 2,318 yards, 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also rushed for 1,650 yards and a whopping 30 touchdowns.
The 2017 season saw no decline in production for Johnson, who improved his numbers to 2,918 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He rushed for 1,627 yards and 29 touchdowns.
With stats like that Johnson is ranked the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country and the No. 27 in the state of Texas.
The Longhorns currently have four quarterbacks on roster, and Johnson is the only commit for his position in the class of 2019.
Junior quarterback Shane Buechele is currently competing with sophomore Sam Ehlinger for the starting position for the Longhorns.
It is suspected that if Ehlinger wins the job as many project, Buechele will transfer to another program, which will make the quarterback room interesting in 2019.
Johnson has Casey Thompson and Cameron Rising ahead of him, both four-stars who will be sophomores when he enrolls.
If Ehlinger remains QB1, Thompson, Rising, and Johnson will be competing for the backup spot, which in the football world is one snap away from being the No. 1 guy.
