Port Neches-Groves is losing its offensive coordinator from the last three seasons, Jared Wingfield, who was named the head coach and athletic director at Class 3A Mabank High School on May 2.
“We’re extremely excited,” Faircloth said. “That is our goal. For our assistants to go off and become head coaches.”
Head coach Brandon Faircloth calls the offensive plays and coaches the quarterbacks and that will not change with Wingfield’s departure.
Faircloth said there is a coach he has in mind for a replacement but cannot give the name until it is approved by the school board.
PN-G is also losing one of its co-defensive coordinators, Ryan Cox, who is leaving to become an assistant coach at Lovejoy High School. The co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach from last season, Dustin Templin, will take over as the sole defensive coordinator. Templin will also move from secondary to coaching linebackers.
Faircloth said he also has a replacement in mind for Templin and just needs board approval.
The Indians almost lost their assistant head coach and offensive line coach, Joe Dale Cary, who was one of two finalists for the Hamshire-Fannett head coaching job.
“We have a great staff,” Faircloth said. “It has been a pretty busy offseason around here.”
