Port Neches-Groves decided to commit to junior Adam Morse as its starting quarterback this year, shifting incumbent starter Ky Walker to more of a role on defense.

Morse rewarded coach Brandon Faircloth’s confidence with four touchdown passes and a rushing score on Friday night to lead the Indians (1-0) to a convincing 38-13 win over Class 6A opponent Clear Lake (0-1) at The Reservation.

Morse’s favorite targets were wideouts Kaleb Sparks and Jack Giblin who combined for 294 receiving yards on a night when Morse completed 26 of 38 passes for 384 yards.

His four touchdown throws more than made up for a pick-six interception which provided the Falcons’ only scoring of the second half.

Sparks grabbed 13 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown, while Giblin caught six passes for 137 yards and a pair of scores.
