New football helmet technology will be on display at Saturday’s Port Neches-Groves-Central football game at the Carrol A. “Butch” Thomas Stadium.
With the help of CHRISTUS Hospital–St. Elizabeth & St. Mary, the PN-G football program will become one of the first in Southeast Texas to take a high-tech approach to monitoring their players for head injuries.
CHRISTUS Hospital has invested in the Riddell InSite Impact Response System – the latest in head impact monitoring technology from the world’s leading helmet manufacturer. Through their partnership with a number of local school athletic programs, the hospital has provided the state-of-the-art helmets to the PN-G.
PN-G varsity football players will be using the new, state-of-the-art football helmets with sensor technology that monitor player head impacts.
“Our goal is to keep players safe and to limit the impacts players sustain, and the InSite technology helps us do that in several ways,” PN-G athletic trainer Ricardo Serna said, “The sensors let us know at the time of contact if a player needs attention. It also helps us better monitor the action on the field of play and helps determine if players are using proper technique or if they need additional instruction.”
