Former PN-G standout Doty leaving Oregon, heading to Lamar

Brennan Doty, a former football and basketball standout at Port Neches-Groves, is leaving the University of Oregon where he was a walk-on quarterback this season. He hopes to enroll at Lamar University this semester and be a walk-on for the men’s basketball team next season.

He will fly back from Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday.

Doty didn’t play in a game for Oregon this season but was able to practice and travel with the team. Oregon beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. Doty said he wouldn’t play football at Lamar.

Last year as a senior shooting guard at PN-G, Doty averaged 21 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.7 steals per game. In football, he threw for 2,830 yards and 29 touchdowns.

“Nothing is for sure but that’s the plan,” Doty said of joining the Lamar men’s basketball team next season. “I’m hoping it happens.”
