Elite Texas QB commit Roschon Johnson ‘shutting down’ recruitment

The only commitment for the 2019 Texas recruiting class, 4-star quarterback Roschon Johnson, says he is done with his recruitment.

Johnson told the Austin American-Statesman’s Mike Craven that he is “110 percent” committed to the Longhorns. He was on campus Saturday for Texas’ junior day, and he said he spent that time helping recruit some other top players for 2019.

“As of right now I’m fully shutting it down and I’m straight Texas,” Johnson said. “I had a chance to communicate for a few of the dudes we’re targeting and I know a few more of the big targets are coming on Sunday.”

It’s common practice for high school players to visit other schools and listen to pitches from other programs even after committing. For Johnson, however, it sounds like he doesn’t intend to waver from his commitment to the Longhorns.

Johnson is the nation’s No. 3-ranked dual-threat quarterback for 2019, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the latest in a series of highly ranked quarterbacks to commit to the Longhorns over the last few years.

Texas signed a pair of 4-star quarterbacks in the 2018 class: Newbury Park’s (Calif.) Cameron Rising and Newcastle’s (Okla.) Casey Thompson. In 2017, they signed 4-star Sam Ehlinger from Austin (Texas) Westlake.
