Port Neches-Groves head coach Matt Burnett says he sees a team that is bigger, stronger and faster than last year’s squad.
Burnett is in his 13th season as head coach of the PN-G Indians who finished last year with an overall record of 5-3, which included capturing the school’s 500th win on the grid iron.
The Indians have returned 18 lettermen from the 2005 team with four starters returning on both offense and defense.
Returning letterman are wide recievers Josh Nelson, Colton Matt, Ben Wolfe and Matt Johnson. Tackles are Andy Gallet, Dylan Crosby, Jody McDonald and Stephen Cribbs. Guards are Kyle Abbott, Cory Knott, Jesse Russell and Josh Cortez.
At center is Aron Tomplait and Clint Burnett and quarterbacks are Drew Barnett and Matt Parks. Running backs are Jake Hemmings, Brandon Begnaud, Justin Pierson and Kenneth Tezeno.
Defensive ends are Payton Faseler, Austin Taliaferro, Zeke Schexnider and Kris Wedekind. Defensive tackles are Clint Burrnett, Stephen Cribbs, Josh Cortez, Todd Reykins and Jesse Russell. In the secondary will
be Kenneth Tezeno, Colton Matt, Brett Doty, Matt Johnson, Ben Wolfe and Josh Nelson.
The kicker is Kyle Abbott.
“Our strenghth right now is in our senior offensive line and our team’s overall speed has improved.
“We are a close team that shares the goal of being a champion,” Burnett said.
