Junior Chase Bertrand heard the question everywhere he went in the summer. At the store. At the barber shop. Could he step up and replace Caleb Harmon at running back for the Port Neches-Groves Indians?
Harmon, the outgoing District 20-4A MVP who now plays for Lamar, had the second-most single-season rushing yards in PN-G history last year with 1,832 yards.
Over the same amount of games so far this year, Bertrand has already surpassed that mark, rushing for 1,929 yards. Question answered.
“I knew I had some big shoes to fill but I knew if I worked hard I could do it,” Bertrand said.
