Port Neches-Groves showed every indication of its ability to have another impressive offensive unit on Saturday night at Indian Stadium.

When assistant coach Kyle Segura finished tallying up numbers from PN-G’s scrimmage film against West Brook, it looked plenty encouraging for the Indians’ ability to retain a balanced offense.

Senior running backs Jeff Bergeron and Josh Hidalgo each compiled 100-yard-plus rushing performances while senior flanker Joey Price amassed more than 100 receiving yards.

Price snagged a 50-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Tony Bowser. Bergeron and Hidalgo both bolted through West Brook’s defense for short scoring runs of one and two yards respectively.

“We got a lot accomplished,” PN-G head football coach Matt Burnett summarized. “I thought Tony (Bowser) performed well. He’s running with the first unit and he did a good job. (QB candidate Kirk) Hallmark is still in the picture, but Tony got more reps. He showed some flashes of some good play.”

PN-G defensive coordinator Ken Cummings tossed plaudits to all members of his front six for their work against WB’s offense.

“The two ends, two tackles and two inside linebackers played exceptionally well,” Cummings said.

PN-G will return to action this Friday night when it will scrimmage at Baytown Sterling.
