With a solid week zero win over the #3 4A ranked Silsbee Tigers under their belts, the Indians now turn their attention to the Huntsville Hornets.

The Indians will travel to Huntsville this Friday to play the Hornets for only the fourth time in history of the two long established football programs.

Fresh off a 55-22 beating of the Willis Wildcats, the #5 ranked Hornets will present perhaps the toughest opponent the Indians will face

Huntsville Hornets
Head Coach: Rodney Southern
Lettermen R/L: 23/22. Starters returning O/D: 6/5. 2018: 12-2 regional finalist/7-0 district
All-Time Record: 600-393-29

Port Neches-Groves Indians
Head Coach: Brandon Faircloth
Lettermen R/L: 22/30. Starters Returning O/D: 6/5. 2018: 9-4 DII regional semifinalist/6-1 district.
All-Time Record: 599-348-33

during the 2019 regular season.

Returning 11 starters from last seasons 12-2-0, district 10-5A champion and Region III finalist team, the Hornets have their sights set on a second consecutive pre-district win over the Indians.

With 6 of those starters returning on offense, led by QB Matthew Southern (3,281 yards, 39 TDs passing; 8 TDs rushing), Huntsville’s offense will once again be a force.

Southern will have a talented receiver corp in Tyrique Carter (359 yards, 5 TDs receiving; 199 yards, 3 TDs rushing),  Miles Tatum (529 yards, 7 TDs receiving) and sophomore Justin Butcher (5-11, 160, 4.8).

Senior running back Cameron Myers (5-5 140) is the top ground threat for the Hornets.

On defense the Hornets will be without 2018 standout T’Vondre Sweat (Texas), but return 5 starters including DE Briceon Hayes (6-2, 225, 4.7, 66 tackles, 14 sacks), LB Jordan Brown (6-1, 210, 4.6, 158 tackles, 16 TFL, 7 sacks), S Jaden Schroeder (5-8, 165, 4.5), and junior DL Quaterian Riles (6-0, 215, 4.8).

Port Neches-Groves heads into the game after an impressive 48-35 win over the Silsbee Tigers.

In that win the Indian defense held back a potent Silsbee attack thanks to the solid play of Joshua Patteson, Donovan Latin, Wyatt Girouard, Abraham Reyes,  Santiago Agudelo, Caison Denzlinger, Dean Guidry, Donovan Bergeron, Josh Pippin, Quintin Root, Ja’Colby Smith-Barber and Lawrence Vaughn.

Impressive blocking by Trey Lisauckis, Dalton Dickerson, Corey Burt, Jarret Callier, Tanner Sasser, Jackson Hunt, Ryan Sosa and Jacob Osbourne paved the way for a 450+ yard, balanced offensive attack.

The Indians junior triumvirate of Blake Bost, Lance Vaughn and Dejaunte Conner rushed for over 250 yards, and QB Bost spread the ball around to receivers Kaleb Wuenschel, Peyton Proenza and Zane Hernandez for nearly 200 yards through the air.

In addition to going for their second win of the season, the Indians have a unique goal within reach.  With a win against the Hornets the Indians will join an elite group of only 59 teams in Texas high school football history that have achieved 600 wins.

The Hornets claimed their 600th win just last week over Willis.
