Port Neches-Groves’ potent offense continued its high-scoring stretch Friday night against Brenham in the regional round of the UIL playoffs.
PN-G scored early and often during what ended as a comfortable win, 38-28 over Brenham in the third round of the Class 5A-II bracket.
Brenham started fast with a touchdown on its first drive of the game, but PN-G quickly erased that deficit. PN-G scored three unanswered touchdowns before the opening quarter was over, with two of those scores coming from running back Isaiah Nguyen.
PN-G’s Shea Adams scored his second rushing touchdown of the night shortly before halftime, and PN-G took a 28-7 lead into the break.
Although Brenham did its best to make things competitive in the second half, the Cubs never got within one score. PN-G worked the clock to its advantage and closed out the game without much trouble.
The 38-point outburst continued PN-G’s strong offensive performance in this year’s playoffs. The team is averaging 33 points per game this postseason.
PN-G’s win gives the team a rematch with district foe Fort Bend Marshall next week. The Buffalos beat PN-G, 35-14 during their first meeting in late September.
