Howard was a three year letterman on the Port Neches-Groves Indians football team from 1975-77. He was selected to the All-district and Super Teams in 1976-77. He was named to the and AAAA All-State team in 1977.
Kern passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at a local hospital. He was 50 years old.
