Port Neches-Groves wrapped up its non-district schedule by pounding West Orange-Stark on the road Friday night.
Shea Adams accounted for all of PN-G’s scoring, finding the end zone four times during a 27-6 victory over the Mustangs at Dan R. Hooks Stadium.
PN-G took a 14-0 lead into halftime after Adams scored twice on the ground. Both times, he took a direct snap from inside the 10-yard line, facing little resistance on his way to the end zone.
Adams added to his big night in the second half, scoring through the air in the third quarter. He caught a jump ball in the corner of the end zone on a 20-yard pass from Cole Crippen, and PN-G took a commanding 21-0 lead.
West Orange-Stark’s lone touchdown came late in the third quarter on a 55-yard pass from Keyshawn Robinson to Dakarion Judge. However, Adams responded again with his final score of the night on PN-G’s next possession. He took another direct snap 25 yards right through the middle of the Mustangs defense and scored, brining the game to its final margin of 27-6.
The loss was West Orange-Stark’s first under Hiawatha Hickman. The Mustangs will play at Newton next week.
Since being embarrassed by Port Arthur Memorial in the season opener, PN-G has put together consecutive blowout wins. A 49-0 victory last week was Jeff Joseph’s first victory at PN-G, followed up by Friday’s road triumph in Orange.
PN-G (2-1) has a bye next week before starting district play on Sept. 23 at Fort Bend Marshall.
